When I started doing tri's people would ask if I would ever do an ironman. I laughed and said there is no way I would do that. I even felt that way after finishing my 70.3 (half ironman) last summer. I just couldn't imagine doing double what I had all ready accomplished. The training alone seemed overwhelming.
All that changed when I read
You Are an Ironman: How Six Weekend Warriors Chased Their Dream of Finishing the World's Toughest Triathlon
While reading it, I started imaging myself an ironman. I got excited. I started believing I could do it. Pretty soon the desire was overwhelming.
I watched one of the ironman races (my family thinks I'm crazy watching them) and heard the announcer Mike Reilly announcing each person's name and that they were an ironman and I knew I had to do it.

Jody was on board for the training commitment and I just needed to decide on the race.
There aren't a lot of Saturday ironman's but I finally narrowed it down to Ironman Maryland on September 29, 2018. In preparation I will do the Gulf Coast half Ironman in May 2018.
Clicking the registration button for the full was terrifying but I had to commit. A few weeks later I came to the realization that Mike Reilly did not announce at all the races. It is logical, he can't be everywhere and at two races at once. I just hadn't thought of it before. I was a sad he may not be announcing my name. My disappointment was set aside when he announced his 2018 schedule and he is announcing at both my half and full ironman. Happy Dance!
