This was my second time to do the hypothermic half. It wasn't my favourite race last year so I'm not too sure why I agreed to doing it again this year.
I HATE THE COLD!!!
Why would I do a race with the word hypothermic in it?
Let's just say the race was a tough one for me. I had set a specific time goal, under two hours, and missed it by a long shot.
Things started out pretty good and I was on pace to reach my goal but then it all started to unravel. I didn't fuel properly, the path conditions tore up my legs and I mentally checked out of the race when I realized I wasn't going to get my goal.
What did I learn
-I have been letting my run nutrition slide lately..... fix it!
-Train for the conditions I will be in if possible.
-Have more than one goal for a race. I could have had a goal to just finish, to maintain a certain pace and then the A goal of under two hours.
-I won't do anymore long winter runs.
-I am strong and can keep going even when things get tough. When things started falling apart, I told myself I was not quitting no matter what, even if I was the last person. I took it as mental training for my ironman.
