Me, "I'm running a half marathon."
Friend, "Where at?"
Me, "Canmore."
Friend, "Oh, I'm doing a race in Canmore in two weeks."
Me, "Which one are you doing?"
Friend, "Rocky Mountain Soap Company."
Me, "That's so weird, that's the one I'm doing. I'm surprised they would do two so close together."
I think a bit more...
Me, being overly confident " I think you have the wrong weekend, its always on the mothers day weekend."
Then I start to think, hmm... I never really looked at the date. I quickly got out my phone and went to the website and sure enough, I had the wrong weekend! The race wasn't for another two weeks! Although they have had the tradition of holding the race mother's day weekend they changed it this year. We had a good laugh.
Emily and I ran this race last year and I beat her so we were both pretty determined to win. Me, to maintain my title and her to redeem herself.
I'm excited for the Rocky Mountain Soap Women's Run Series Half Marathon tomorrow.
Watch for my Facebook Runmeter to start around 9:05am on Saturday and then like or comment. The app on my phone speaks any likes or comments to me. It keeps me going. (Only nice comments Jordan Pierson).
My goals this year in order of importance:
1) Finish
2) Beat my time of 2:00:20 from last year
3) Run the whole way up the stupid hill at the end (I had to walk part way last year). I've been practicing hills tons this year.
4) TAKE DOWN Emily Dukeshire
Truthfully the last one is the most important!
About 12 k into the run I had to give up the idea of beating her and run for myself. She was running such a good race she deserved to be in front.
Around 14k I started to feel low on fuel. I couldn't catch up with my energy demands no matter how many energy bites I ate.
At 15k came the 'HILL"
I tried so hard to run the whole way but just could not do it. I had to stop and walk. I would sight something in front of me, run to that point then sight someting and walk to that point. Then I started running 50 steps walking 50 steps.
At the top of the hill Liam and Jarom were waiting for me on their bikes. They were cheering for me and telling me I could do it. When I saw them I dropped my fuel belt and told them to grab it.
Liam road along with me telling me, "ok mom run to this car, now just go to the corner, once you're around the corner you will see the finish line, dont stop running." He did that last year and it makes such a difference. He is such a good sport to do that for me.
When I got to the finishing gates my sister, her grand daughter, James and Missy were there to cheer me through, I grabbed Karens hand and we ran through the finish line together.
My official time was 1:58:20.7 (About 2 minutes faster than last year)
5/20 in my age category
55/275 overall
Pretty good for a 50 year old I think.
My other May adventure
One beautiful spring day Jody and I were able to do just that. I was a bit tricky this year because of all the washed out paths. At one point we had to ride on Stoney Trail. It ended up being 38k one way. Rather than ride back up Stoney we decided to take the train part way home and then bike the rest of the way. We met Emily, Missy and James at Wendy's for lunch.
It was a perfect day! I love riding my bike but especially riding my bike with my honey, Jody.
