Robin, my son in law, is my main Spartan buddy. We have had a lot of fun running spartan's together in the past. I usually set the running pace and keep us moving forward and he helps me with a lot of the obstacles, namely walls. I get a little chocked up when he calls out to me, "Are you doing okay mom?" I'm so grateful I can have a good relationship with all my son in laws.
Robin and Megan moved to Winnipeg last summer. Robin was fortunate enough to be able to make it back for the last two spartans in the fall but we thought that might be the end of of racing days together.
Well, it turns out there was a spartan in Winnipeg and we were able to arrange our visit it there on that very weekend. Liam and Jarom came with too so it was the original race team back together again.
The super length is my favorite length to run. It's around 13km with about 20 obstacles. Its long enough to make it a challenge but not exhausting.
The weather in Winnipeg leading up to the race was pretty raining so we were expecting plenty of mud. We were not disappointed at all. The course was beautiful and challenging. The weather was perfect for running.
Liam and Jarom sprinted off as usual and left Robin and I in the dust.
We kept a pretty slow pace as Robin hasn't been running lately. It was fun to just run, walk and visit and work on the obstacles as they came up.
As usual any wall was a challenge for me. My biggest win was getting through part of the rig. I haven't been able to do any of it in the past.
My favorite things were the long river crossing, the super muddy barbed wire crawl, and the slippery wall which I basically owned!
My time wasn't great but the reason for this race was to do it with my racing buddy, Robin.

Spartan Training
Emily invited me to go to cor.fit to do some Spartan training with her. She wanted to do a rope climbing and spear throwing class. When I went to register they talked me into doing the two more classes, obstacles and spartan bootcamp.
It was 3.5 hours of fun! Boy was I bruised, rope burned and sore after.
This is one of the obstacles that I was able to conquer.
Other wins, getting over a wall by myself, doing the curved wall by myself, getting the spear a few times, getting one step closer to doing the rope climb. My two goals for Spartan races this year are to do more of the obstacles on my own and to nail the rope climb.
If anyone wants to go to cor.fit, I'm game to going with you.
